In this video we show you around the highlights that made our holiday terrific. Diana Luke and myself as cameraman spent two weeks in the Mexico Riviera Maya – Playa del Carmen at the Ocean Mayan Royale Hotel. We saw the ancient ruins of Tulum and climbed a pyramid in historic Myan city of Coba. Come and join our journey of experience in the Yucatan Peninsula…
We had a great time sightseeing around the Mexican Riviera in February. Most of our trips were down the highway 307 towards Tulum and Coba. We did a great scuba diving tour allthe way down to Punta Allen, a three hour drive. I decided not to take the camera as there would be lots of sea water splashing about. This proved to be a wise move.
Our second trip out means getting up early to beat the rush of tourists, to one of Mexicos Myan hot spots, Tulum. The ruins are now preserved at the Zona Arqueológica de Tulum, and is built right on the coastal shores of the Caribbean sea.
After being dropped off at the coach park it’s another short walk through the jungle. Tulúm is also the Mayan word for fence or wall.
When you find the wall the entrance to the city is through this 8 meter tunnel. This site might have been called Zama, meaning City of Dawn, because it faces the sunrise. Tulum has architecture typical of Maya sites on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.

Every corner is a photo opportunity. So do remember to bring along your camera. There are three major structures of interest at the site.
- The Temple of the Frescoes; Used as an observatory for tracking the movements of the sun. (Also home to Iguanas.)
- The Temple of the Descending God.
- And El Castillo; A small shrine used as a beacon for incoming canoes.
We were glad we came early as I would imagine the small but beautiful beach would get pretty crowded.
This is a Minor Epic Film
The production lasts around 20 minutes and is crammed full of photographic opportunities as the whole area is very photographic. As you can see from the screen grab of the edit, theres lots going on.
