A Tree in the Middle of a Road?

Who would have believed it, a tree in the middle of a road junction! But yes there it was, I was driving my car trying to find a parking space to visit  Nether Edge Farmers Market in South Sheffield on Sunday 22 March.

When I came across a tree in the middle of the road junction I was a little surprised, so I took a couple of pictures on my iPhone after parking and thought I would share the humour!

I’m surprised it’s still there after the age of “Health & Safety” although I do like the quirkyness of the idea in Sheffield.

The tree can be found an the junction of Montgomery Road and Ryle Road.

Here is a link to the junction in Google Maps: Junction Coordinates

Are There Others?

I wonder if there is a similar tree anywhere else in the UK? If you know of a tree in the middle of a road then I would be interested in having a look at your picture, thank you.

addendum: apparently there are!!!

I was doing a Google search to see if this post could be found when up popped the title “Tree in middle of the road, Brayton Iowa.” so here is the link with an unusual story below(read more…)

Your Online Guide to Offbeat Tourist Attractions

A 100-foot tall cottonwood tree grows in the middle of an intersection in Audubon County, Iowa. In 1850 a surveyor cut a cottonwood sprout to use as a walking stick, later planting it in the ground to mark a section corner. It grew into the massive tree that still stands there today. There are no markers, no signs directing you to it, but just when you think you aren’t going to find it, a massive tree top begins to emerge at the top of the hill, directly in front of you. The leafy shade and grassy patch surrounding the trunk simply invite you to have a picnic in the middle of the intersection.
